Few contemporary poets have secured critical success, maintained relative seclusion, and garnered a cult following of poetry lovers, but Olena Kalytiak Davis is an anomaly in more ways than her poetry persona entails. Her work is enigmatic, subversive, and experimental – a pastiche of literary movements and techniques which, nevertheless, adds more than it subtracts. We will examine Davis’ work with an eye toward its place in a poetic lineage of confession, subversion, and devotion, with an emphasis on her literary influences.
