Daniel H. Weiss - In That Time: Michael O'Donnell and the Tragic Era of Vietnam — in conversation with Peter Osnos

Upcoming Event
Sunday, January 26, 2020 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

In his moving new book, Weiss, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art revisits the Vietnam War via the life and legacy of Michael O’Donnell. A promising poet and folksinger, Army Captain O’Donnell served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, until he was shot down at age 24 during a rescue mission in Cambodia in March 1970. Though he was officially MIA until his remains were recovered in 2001, O’Donnell’s legacy has survived through his many poems that speak eloquently of his generation’s experience, especially the often anthologized piece that closes with the request that survivors “take one moment,/to embrace these gentle heroes you left behind.” Weiss will be in conversation with Peter Osnos, founder and consulting editor of PublicAffairs.
