P&P Live! and DC Public Library Present Justin A. Reynolds and Pablo Leon-Miles Morales: Shock Waves

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, July 6, 2021 - 4:00pm

Politics and Prose is delighted to partner with DC Public Library, the DC Public Library Foundation, and Pepco for an inspirational program for teens with author Justin A. Reynolds and illustrator Pablo Leon. The artists will talk about their creative process and collaboration on their new Spider-Man graphic, Miles Morales: Shock Waves.

Please see details below to receive a free copy of Miles Morales: Shock Waves while supplies last, sponsored by the DC Public Library Foundation.

Miles Morales is a normal kid who happens to juggle school at Brooklyn Visions Academy while swinging through the streets of Brooklyn as Spider-Man. After a disastrous earthquake strikes his mother's birthplace of Puerto Rico, Miles springs into action to help set up a fundraiser for the devastated island. But when a new student's father goes missing, Miles begins to make connections between the disappearance and a giant corporation sponsoring Miles' fundraiser. Who is behind the disappearance, and what does it have to do with Spider-Man? In this original graphic novel starring one of Marvel's most popular characters, bestselling author Justin A. Reynolds (Opposite of Always, Early Departures) and Eisner award-nominated artist Pablo Leon (Refugees) create a riveting story that will connect with new readers and well-versed superhero fans alike.

The first 100 young people to join the event and select the "Free Event Admission + Free Book" option at registration will receive a complimentary copy of Miles Morales: Shock Waves for their home library (one book per family please). Signed bookplates will be included. Recipients of the complimentary copy will pick their books up in the Alma Thomas Teen Space at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G St. NW, Washington, DC, beginning July 2. These books are generously donated by the District of Columbia Public Library Foundation.

This program is presented in conjunction with D.C. Public Library’s Know Your Power contest, sponsored by Pepco. Teens are invited to submit an original work of writing, photography, illustration, or music that expresses their feelings on a social issue that matters to them.
