Talking about racism is hard but kids of color often have “The Talk” with their parents – an honest talk about survival in the racist world. Oftentimes, white kids don’t have this conversation and it needs to change. The Other Talk: Reckoning with Our White Privilege starts the much-needed conversation about race and white privilege with white kids. Award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Brendan Kiely discusses why allyship is so vital and how we can all start doing our part.
Brendan Kiely is the New York Times bestselling author of All American Boys with Jason Reynolds. He has written a number of books and has received the Coretta Scott King Author Honor Award, the Walter Dean Meyers Award, and ALA’s Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults. A former high school teacher, Brendan is now on the faculty for the Solstice MFA program.
Jason Reynolds is the award-winning and bestselling author of many books including Miles Morales: Spider-Man, the Track series (Ghost, Patina, Sunny, and Lu), Long Way Down, which received a Newbery Honor, a Printz Honor, and a Coretta Scott King Honor, and Look Both Ways, which was a National Book Award Finalist.
