The Magician King - Lev Grossman

Imagine Harry Potter and his friends in college and you have an idea of Lev Grossman’s achievement in The Magicians. Now imagine that Quentin Coldwater and his fellow students have completed their studies in sorcery and are ready for further adventures. The Magician King (Plume, $16) finds Quentin and Julia growing restless in Fillory, the Narnia-like kingdom they thought they’d dreamed up—only to find that it actually existed. Now Fillory’s reigning monarchs, the pair embarks on a complicated quest. Things go wrong, and they end up in the distinctly un-magical Chesterton, Massachusetts, where they must use all their wiles and worldly knowledge against the forces poised to destroy Fillory.
