A lot of today’s fiction is about family secrets, but little involves evil puppets. Hendrix's novel focuses on estranged siblings brought together by their parents’ sudden death. As they work to sort out the affairs of their logical dad and flighty mom--which includes a vast doll collection that has, quite literally, taken over the house--what follows is a bloody tale of greed, ghosts, angry taxidermy, and vengeful toys. It's part thriller, part comedy--and all great.
