Jennifer Gilmore spoke about her book, The Mothers, at Politics & Prose on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. In this interview, Gilmore speaks about her own experiences with adoption, and the affect it had on her novel.
The third novel by the author of Golden Country and Something Red takes a close look at adoption—and finds it emotionally harrowing territory. Jesse and Ramon, a stable, married, heterosexual couple, would seem to be ideal prospective parents, yet their efforts to find a child are met with disappointment, deception, and red tape.
